In preparation for the release of the highly anticipated
The Hobbit,
director Peter Jackson has taken to Facebook to explain his decision to shoot the film in
high frame rate (HFR). Jackson says that the goal was to demonstrate "how remarkably immersive the theatrical cinema experience can be," and believes that the higher frame rate "hugely reduces" eye strain for 3D viewing. Jackson adds that cinemas are competing with home theater systems for viewers, and that it's up to filmmakers to continue to advance the theater experience and attract moviegoers.
